Speaker 1:

Hi, it's nice to meet you. Thank you for coming on to my podcast as a guest. Thank you for having me. I'm glad to be here. Thank you, I guess, to start off, can you tell listeners a little bit about yourself and what you do, your background, anything that you would like to share.

Speaker 2:

So I'm Dr Orr, I'm a doctor of natural medicine and I work with people on supporting them in listening to their bodies and listening to their inner knowing. I particularly work with women on listening to their cycles, discovering what their physical symptoms are telling them about their emotions, their energy, their patterns, and together, once they hear the message, then together we work on meeting their needs, getting them to follow their truths and follow their vision and live their purpose.

Speaker 1:

Awesome. Thank you. So lots of interesting work there, right? What kind of got you started with this type of work?

Speaker 2:

So I was. I got into energy medicine right out of high school. I was 18 years old. I moved to New York for college and I met this woman who took me under her wings and, without giving me on, um, I was having like really bad phobias, um, and they were affecting my like, my everyday. They were affecting my sleep, my day-to-day commute, just I I was. Yeah, it was really really tough. So I worked with her on my phobias and she kind of like she was uh a, she practiced something called NET neuroemotional technique, and so she threw me into this technique very quickly and all of a sudden I was working.

Speaker 2:

I was doing this work, this emotional work that I'd never done before. I've been to therapists that have never done this kind of work before and it involved some past life stuff. It involved like listening into my energy body and getting like this new language of like I have chakras, I have org fields, I have archetypes. There were all these new things and even though they were new to me, everything I heard and everything that I was working with felt very aligned for me and I could really understand very quickly. So it was almost like somebody who learned how to ride a bike and then had like amnesia and then got up and got on the bike again and knew what they were doing, like their body was in that mode already. So it was like in my blood this kind of work and my DNA and my whatever.

Speaker 2:

And I worked on my phobias with her and within a few sessions and a little bit of work that was kind of intense I was able to sleep without the tv on, without lights on. I didn't have like reoccurring like kind of like things that I thought were going to happen, like I didn't have these like visuals of what I thought was going to happen. And then I just pursued learning. I started learning more. I learned some. One of my biggest inspirations is Caroline Mace's work on archetypes and anatomy of the spirit, on archetypes and anatomy of the spirit, and so I started learning about the energetic body and the vital body and that's kind of what took me down this route.

Speaker 1:

That sounds very, very interesting. And I've done like a chakra cleanse before on myself, like on my own, and I've only done it once, but just that one time that I did it I was kind of like I don't want to say shocked, but like amazed, I guess at the process of it, because I remember feeling like tingling like in certain chakras, and it's been a while. But like she explained to me, you know everything but and so I believe I'm a believer in that and it sounds very interesting. And so I believe I'm a believer in that and it sounds very interesting. And then also like just non-traditional as well, because typically right, like when people are experiencing phobias, anxiety, just anything like that we typically turn to like a therapist or medications to help, and so this is just another approach and it sounds very interesting and just fascinating yeah, I think that a lot of just the way that we live.

Speaker 2:

It's like there's a problem and then you just want to shut that problem down. Right, you don't want to deal with a problem. I mean, you have kids. You you know what it's like to have like a kid come up to you and be like, oh, I got hurt, and like our immediate thing is like let's fix it. And really, what does a kid want? A kid wants to have like a kiss on their boo-boo and then usually, unless it's like something really major they're, they just go back to the playground and they play, and so it's like that recognition I think we're really missing from Western medicine, traditional therapy.

Speaker 2:

It's like we need to give a pause and to look at oh, you're in pain, oh you're in fear, oh, you're in trauma or whatever. Right, like sometimes it's just that pause before we dive in and we do the work, or before we take a pill and we quote unquote fix the problem. Because we're not fixing it. We're just kind of like ignore, numbing it out, putting a bandaid on, trying to move on and keep up with our very busy life.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, definitely, yeah, like there's a pill for everything and that's supposed to fix everything but it's such a temporary fix. So definitely your work sounds very interesting, very helpful. Thank you for sharing that. I was interested in kind of picking your brain a little bit on energy. So I know you mentioned a little bit of energy, but specifically like feminine and masculine. I started reading. I forgot what book it was that mentioned it, but I'll speak personally for myself. It's very hard to. I don't. I feel like I need to work on my feminine energy. I'll just put it that way. And so, to start off, I mean, from your expertise and your experience, how would you even begin to talk about like feminine, masculine energy, like, what is it like? What are we talking about? For listeners who are probably like okay, what are they talking about? What is this?

Speaker 2:

How would you talking about? What is this? How would you? Let me ask you a question. So when you say I feel like I need to, work on my feminine energy.

Speaker 1:

Can you describe what that means to you? Sure, so for me in particular, and I know it shows up in different areas, but for me In a relationship, for example. So I in the relationship, I tend to like want to take charge, get things done, like Like it's really hard for me to let someone else like take care of me or like do things for me. Like I need I'm the one that's supposed to be in charge, I the one that gets things done, like I don't rely on other people, type of thing. Like those are some examples and that can be really like exhausting after a while.

Speaker 1:

Right, Like just yeah, and so sometimes I'm just like man, I wish I could just like step back and just allow myself to, just okay, like someone else could do it, or you know, that's my example, that's at least for me.

Speaker 2:

So I'm like Most women's answers will probably be like what you just said. Right, it's like the struggle is overdoing, controlling, running the show, not letting anybody in and like suffering from it. Right, and you use the word allowing. Feminine frequency is so much about allowing, receiving, being in the flow, right, but so many of us females do not. We do not do that, we are terrible at it. We want to make sure everything is like this idea of perfect that doesn't exist and God knows who made this up. Right, like this idea of perfection. And then we're mad. We're mad because there's no way to achieve that perfection. Like no way. Even if like perfection, like no way, even if, like you, put all of us incredibly talented women together, that perfection looks different to everybody, and it's also so much of it is based on what we think it should look like, right, what we, what we like, our imagination tells us, our imagination tells us oh, this person, usually a woman, expects this thing to happen, and so I have to make sure it happens and my line of people, my partner, my husband, my children don't fall and don't meet those needs for me. They don't know how to make it perfect like I need it to be or like the other person needs it to be, how to make it perfect like I need it to be or like that other person needs it to be? So it's not even connected. These desires, these ideas, are not even connected to our own truth. So what would it look like for us to connect First thing, first, connect to what it is, that is, our knowing, our needs, our wants, our desires, our essence, right Like first things. Connect to your essence. And that requires pausing, it requires taking a break from being quote, unquote, this idea of perfect and this idea of like. I can run everything, I can run this show, and if you pause, there's a fear that if you pause, everything is going to crumble down.

Speaker 2:

So, as women, female, feminine energy is really about nurturing, allowing, receiving, being in flow. Masculine energy is about providing, creating structure, protecting, hunting, right Like going like we, really. We go back to the, to history, like we go back to, like the ancient, like you know, like civilization, where they really embodied what masculine and feminine energy looks like. They really embodied what masculine and feminine energy looks like. But we've lost that because we've gotten into this place of fear of like. How can I be a business owner? How can I live in corporate world and be nurturing People? Look at that as a weakness. How can I be flowing? I can't flow.

Speaker 2:

There's structure that is required of me. I have to show up in a certain way. So there's a lot of fear connected here, and that's something that each individual person is going to have to breathe through, to work through, and really a way to do that is to connect with whatever your divine support looks like, right? So, whether it's God or the universe or being out in nature, it's looking at this thing that's bigger than us and allowing that thing to be the holding while we pause so that we can start processing through our own fear of. I'm planning on pausing so that I can look at that and I can look at bringing in femininity into my life, but I'm really scared. So help me pause. And that pause right Like the holding, the holding space for us to pause. That's masculine. That's somebody creating structure for us, right, like that support system.

Speaker 1:

What can happen if someone is kind of like misaligned, so like kind of like me, right, how, I feel like I'm kind of misaligned with that. I need to work on my like feminine energy, right? What can happen if someone is kind of misaligned and even like with masculine energy, like someone being misaligned with that like how, how, what would that look like?

Speaker 2:

So it looks like from an external life perspective. It looks like, um, fighting with your partner or not having not being able to meet somebody who you flow with because you're butting head, you're butting energies, not just heads, but energy. Um, it looks like this, like all the cancer that we have right? Ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, like that being on the rise. That shows you how bad that, how terribly we're doing with honoring the feminine, because all of those show that we've overdone it. Cancer is an overgrowth, it's an old, it's right, it's, it's, there's too much of something. So there is this inability to balance and to honor and respect femininity. It looks like PMS, it looks like PCOS, it looks like endometriosis. It looks like all these these physical ailments and these eases that we see and that's how it comes. That's, that's like the extreme of it, right? So, yeah, that's how you know you're out of balance.

Speaker 1:

That's interesting that you say that, because that's actually kind of like what got me started with like really thinking about this and like wanting to work on this is like, over the last year, um, my periods became very like I can't even think of the word but, uh, very, I don't know why, irregular, irregular I couldn't think of that word. They became very regular and like I was like what's going on and I think everything's connected. So it's it's interesting you mentioned that, because our mental can definitely affect our physical as well, right?

Speaker 2:

A hundred percent.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and like you mentioned, if you're misaligned in these energies and you're just like arguing, fighting right with your partner, like you're adding all this stress, like it's stressful, stressful situations, so I could see, yeah, like how that can affect the physical health as well.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it can affect infertility, it affects irregular cycles are like the easiest way and, honestly, the safest way, to tell that you're off, because it means that your body is just giving you kind of safe hints at this point, right, it hasn't come to a place that's more difficult to reverse, right? So if we pay attention to our cycles, we can know, based on each symptom, what is happening. So, for example, low back pain is related to finances and to feeling supported, stomach issues around PMS, inability to digest emotions, a little meditation and a protocol to work with, because those things are reversible, for lack of a better word. And our body is talking to us. It's telling us something and you're listening, right, you just said this is why I'm going into this, this is why I'm curious.

Speaker 2:

And it's easier to take magnesium or birth control let's not even go there but, right, like these things that shut us down, magnesium doesn't shut you down. I love magnesium, but it's easier to take something to quote-unquote fix the problem than to actually listen deeper. But our energetic body is like 40 percent of our what our physical reality. So what's happening behind the scenes is a huge amount of what is affecting what we're seeing and what we're experiencing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, definitely as far as like the misalignment, you know, with the energy feminine, masculine energy, whatnot, what do you feel that are some of the contributing factors to that with someone?

Speaker 2:

Expectations, expectations from again, like that we make up Expectations that we see in the media, politics, social media, and part of what started this is you know, the whole feminist revolution I mean as amazing as feminist revolution was like we needed women to stand up and say you know, we need equal pay and we need the ability to vote, and you know all those things are, and we need ownership over our physical bodies. Right, all those things are major and super, super important. And what happened when women went to fight for this is that then they lost the essence of femininity Because they went oh, we want to be a part of the masculine world. We want to be a part of how the men are doing, rather than going. We're women. Let's own how we're doing it. Let's own our power. Let's own nurturing. Let's own how we're doing it. Let's own our power. Let's own nurturing. Let's own allowing. Let's own flow. Let's own love and care and tenderness. Let's own those things. Let's make those things normal.

Speaker 2:

We went no, those things are viewed as bad in this capitalist world. So let's push them aside and let's be and show that we can be like men, right, like if we see advertisement, we let's pretend we don't have a period, let's not even talk about it. Let's have the tiniest tampon so nobody knows that you're on your period and you can still do everything that a man does. Well, sure, you could if you want to, but you don't have to want to because you're not male, you're female, so own that. And then we change the world that way, by bringing more of that into the world and into whatever it is that you choose to be doing with your life, and like, let that spread. So I think that's what tipped it. It's like we went into this, this anger mode. We went into this, this anger mode, and we fought for something, and then we fought for things like the pill that actually destroy our femininity, destroy so much of who we are as females, and shut it down.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I see what your points. And when I was thinking of like me yeah, I see what your points and when I was thinking of like me, just I was like, okay, why is it so hard for me? Whatever I was, like, you know, also upbringing right, like our upbringing, our parents right, our family, so my family or my mom, valued work a lot. So like working, you have to work hard. You have to like right, go to school, you have to do this, this and this. And then also like she was a single mom for most of my life, so that also right, like she had to kind of take on both roles like mom, dad, and so just like that upbringing also just made me grow into like more of the masculine energy and you know that made it hard for me to just be like like we've talked about, like okay, like it's okay to to let another person you know solve a problem for me or whatever. So definitely like upbringing too, right, another big one.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, absolutely. The way we've watched the men and women in our lives affects us tremendously more than we know and enters our subconscious, enters our archetypical realm, conscious, enters our archetypical realm, enters our physical body and we might not even remember a lot of the things we've learned. But that's such an important process that you're going through is looking at. You know, what did I learn from my mother? What did I learn from the absence of my father? Right. And what am I willing to take? Take and what am I willing to let go of? Right.

Speaker 2:

So now you have to go through your own inventory of what makes sense, because there's an immense value in in working and providing for your family as a single mother. Immense that I mean, oh my gosh. Right, like the amount of respect and honor that your mother deserves for for doing that, providing for your family as a single mother Immense value. I mean, oh my gosh. Right, like the amount of respect and honor that your mother deserves for doing that right. And how can? If you got to play with that and you got to rewrite some of it, how could you imagine that she might do that while still respecting her femininity, while still allowing help in, while still allowing, teaching you time to relax, to put up your feet, to take a bath when you need to, to show up in the morning, right?

Speaker 2:

Part of it is not even like. It's not even in the actions. It's in how we take those same actions in the actions. It's in how we take those same actions right. There's a way of like you could drive stressed or you could drive relaxed. You're still driving right, you're still doing the same thing, but how are you in your body right? How are you putting food on the table? Are you doing it in a soft and gentle and nurturing way, or are you like, angry about it and stressed out and like eating rushed right, like it's? It's not so much about the actions that we're taking, it's in the frequency that carry those actions. Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 1:

I love that, because you mentioned like okay, you're going to be driving anyway, right, so what can we do to still like not be so? I feel like also like not be so tough on ourselves in a way, like those expectations that we put on ourselves, right, like I have to do this, I have to. We mentioned like this has to be perfect, I have to, right, so just like those expectations that we put on ourselves too, um, and kind of balance it out with I don't know doing something you enjoy, right, taking a break, and there's just a reframing of it, right?

Speaker 2:

So, like Byron, katie's work is a great resource for looking at expectations of ourselves or of others, right? It's like you get to look at what that expectation is and question it. Right, challenge yourself in questioning it. Who said that? Where did that come from? Is that true? Is it true? And then she takes you. I love it because she takes you through this process of really challenging yourself to see if those thoughts, those belief, systems are true.

Speaker 1:

I love that. I love that because, yeah, and that's really helpful because sometimes if and I always give my own examples because I don't want to generalize listeners in their experience I'm like for me, like if I'm having like a super busy day and I always have a checklist of things that I have to do, I do have to practice reframing sometimes because, let's say, I have something on my checklist and I'm like, okay, it has to get done today. I'm putting that pressure on me, like okay, I have to do this. But then sometimes I just have to reframe and be like you know what? Like well, what's gonna, what's gonna happen if I do this tomorrow? Like is it, it's gonna be okay, right, like once you start kind of like questioning those thoughts that come into your mind and at the end of the day, like it's gonna be okay, it's gonna be fine, Right, working with whatever outside higher power also comes into play and is also really helpful, because you remember that it's not all up to you and I had this you're sharing from yourself.

Speaker 2:

so I'll share a little thing that I had years ago. My daughter brought home from school a little seed it was either an orange or a lemon seed or something a citrus seed and she planted it in this pot that we had in the kitchen and this thing didn't. Nothing came, I think like a little leaf came of it and we watered it and we, you know, sang to it and all the things trying to make this plant grow, and nothing happened, like it was making no progress. And then we left for the summer. We were gone for a month and a half, so this plant was getting no water and like I don't think the window was even open, just sun. And when we came back it was like a foot tall, tall, like it had leaves and like it made huge progress. And it really hit me.

Speaker 2:

I go back to this plant so often. Now it's now we moved to a house, so now it's in the backyard, backyard and it's beautiful. It doesn't have any fruit, but it has lots of leaves and it's really tall. And I go back to that plant often and reminding myself that I'm not in charge, constantly, be like nagging at something or taking care of something to see it grow right. It's like connecting to nature is like the best way to remember that so much is out of our control and so much is out of our hands.

Speaker 2:

And that's a good thing, because we get stuck in this illusion that we are in control, that we're in charge, that we are responsible for so much more than we would ever be responsible or should be responsible for, and we pick that up as kids, right? You mentioned that. We pick up that we're responsible for our parents feelings, our parents anger, and our parents happiness and our friends. You know, if our friends has feelings, we're told, as you know, oh, you made him feel bad or oh, go, like there's so much on us, versus taking responsibility for our own stuff and owning those things and paying attention to our own needs. I think if we did that, we'd be in a much better place.

Speaker 1:

I agree, like just kind of accepting, like sometimes you're not going to be in control of everything and things we're never in control of everything, like, and it's okay, like you don't have to be in control of everything, yeah yeah yeah, so what, what, um, what is something that listeners could do or start to? I don don't know. Like, how do we kind of like begin to work on our energy or like is there any small things we could do? Like what can we do?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so, I think the first part of listening in is it's simple, it's not easy for us to do and I think noticing that it's not easy is a good step. But pausing, pausing throughout your day, pausing in the car before you start your engine, pausing when you go to the bathroom, right, like paying attention to being in our bodies and taking note of what that feels like and also taking note of oh, I, you know, oh, I heard this podcast earlier and she said that you know to pause and it's been three days and I haven't done it, done it right. It's like why is it so challenging to do that right? So pausing, um, laying down for five minutes and breathing, this is all like preliminary practices of listening to your body and listening to your energy and giving your. And it's like when you it's, you know, when you go on a date with someone new, like getting to know them right. So much, so many of us we just we don't do that. We don't practice listening to our body. So pausing, that's like.

Speaker 2:

That is the biggest thing I'll recommend In terms of listening to specific symptoms. Like I said, I'm happy to share my little booklet on PMS symptoms and what they mean so that it can. You can start like translating through um and then I'll also I'd recommend um. There's a book called the queen's code which I love. I highly recommend that book in terms of like um, female, male in relationships and how to honor yourself as a queen and how to honor your partner as the king and what that looks like and how that changes the relationship. And the female brain is also another great book that I love and it really shows how different we are on a physiological level and a biological level.

Speaker 2:

We're very, very different and so when you start seeing that physically, I think it also gives a lot of support and reasoning as to why we need, emotionally and energetically, the things that we need and why and how to honor our counterparts, um, in what they need. Because, because a lot of the times we'll also get mad at them for not being like us. Right, when I talking, I'm talking male, female relationship here. So just to be clear, but in male and female relationship, we're so angry at them that they don't wash the dishes the same way or run the household the same way or get things done the same way that we do, but we hold the standard for them that we hold for ourselves and they are not physically are. They're not the same as we are. They just are not like physically they're not. So I think that's a really important thing to also consider when we talk about male and female energies yeah, I need to remind myself of that.

Speaker 1:

Right, like he's not washing the dishes, like I would not cleaning up, like, like, okay, he's not you like he's, oh gosh. Thank you for that reminder yeah, yeah, he's not.

Speaker 2:

And if we honor that he's not you and that he's not the perfect female that we expect him to be, we'd be so much happier and we'd have such such better relationships. Yeah, and to see what they do, that is that that we value right, like. Let's like go back to the, to what you said, allowing and structure right. So for me and for me it's even more because my partner is a Capricorn and I'm a Pisces, so he has not just being male, but but he's also, he has that structural, astrological aspect of him and I have not just being female, but also the, the Piscean flow, like watery energy to me. So I love to visualize it as he is the riverbanks, so that my water has space to flow in. And I think that when we let ourselves flow and we let them hold us and not try to control how they hold us, because they just want us to be happy and they just want to love us and they just want to see us do our thing, they really do. I mean, they really do.

Speaker 1:

They're pretty simple. Yeah, I'm a capricorn, so I see what you, I know what you're talking about.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so for you it's gonna be even more challenging, right, because for you, how do you find the feminine aspect of the capricorn, which is like a earthy structural sign, right, you, you're, you're all about that structure. So what does that look like from a feminine perspective?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, um, I don't know and you can start start journaling about that, start like finding that within you and and you know, I mean you can even look at, you know, maybe like architectural magazines, right, like look through and see how different architects build their structures, right. Or I mean even to like let's go back to nature for a second. Nature is very structured, but it doesn't look like a straight building.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's true. Okay, um, well, thank you so much. I love this conversation and it's definitely something to think about, even like for listeners, and so this is going to be different for everyone. But if this resonated with you and you want more information or you're more curious, where can people find you and, you know, get your freebies and all the good stuff?

Speaker 2:

So my website is quantumdoctororcom and you can find this freebie workbook there what your PMS is trying to tell you, or your PMS is trying to tell you something. I think it's called, and you can always email me quantumdoctoror at gmailcom, and I'm also on Instagram as quantumdoctoror and I'd love to talk with you and help you work through any physical stuff or relationship stuff or owning your truth, finding your truth, owning your body.
